Magill Little Athletics Centre (“MLAC“) encourages children aged from U/6 to U/17, regardless of ability, to strive to achieve their best in the full range of athletic events. Tiny Tots (ages 3 to 5) are also catered for in a special fun/games/skills based program. The emphasis is on fun, fitness and improvement - not winning. All events use equipment specifically designed to be appropriate to the size and ability of the child. MLAC meets are held on Sunday mornings at the Caterer Oval, St Peters College. Enter from Hatswell Street, Hackney, there is parking on site next to the oval. Please arrive at 9:15 for a 9:30 start. Finish times vary but are generally 11 am for Tiny Tots (ages 3 to 5) and between 11.30am and 12:00pm for older athletes. A BBQ and small canteen is offered at the end of most meets. Each summer season runs from October to March but not during school holidays.
The Magill Little Athletics Centre was established in 1991, by a group of parents from Magill Primary School, where the club also called home in their early years. Meeting on Sunday mornings, the club moved to the Morialta campus of Norwood Morialta High School where the club grew to having more than 200 members after the 2000 Sydney Olympics. This growth saw the Club move to Pembroke School. In 2023 the club moved again, this time to St Peter’s College, to outstanding facilities and a pathway to the strong Saints Seniors Athletics Club. This partnership provides a community that welcomes athletes of all abilities from Tiny Tots through to Masters squads. Throughout our history the volunteers who have run our club have embraced the Little Athletics motto of ‘be your best’. They have continued to grow the club to allow local youngsters to compete, improve and enjoy all of the events offered at Little Athletics. Among many high achieving former athletes is Jane Claxton former captain of the Hockeyroos, and who has represented Australia at 3 Olympic Games. Olivia Sandery also competed at Paris games in the 20km walk, whilst Paul Puopolo is a triple premiership player with Hawthorn.
